#33 Kerio Valley & Tugen Hills

When turning from Lake Baringo to the west, you are going for a rollercoaster that takes you through uncountable turns from the hot Rift Valley floor to the chilly top of Tugen Hills, back into Kerio Valley and then up again to Elgeyo Escarpment. On the way, there are spectacular landscapes to be admired: forested crests which invite hikers for scenic walks, the Kerio Valley gorge with its massive basalt formations, the untamed nature of Lake Kamnarok National Reserve and the Kerio Valley with its seasonal elephant migration, and not to forget the elaborate irrigation system of Pokot and Marakwet tribes which was invented by the mystic Sirikwa people some 2,000 years ago. As prehistoric findings have proven, the region has a much longer human history, though. Why are you waiting to explore a hardly known part of the Great Rift Valley?
