Garissa is the southernmost region of what generally is regarded as Kenya's wild northeast. It shares the dry character of the land, the vast distances, the pastoralist way of life of its human inhabitants and a fragile security with the other regions bordering Somalia, a fact that makes this a land not fit for unprepared traveling. However, this does not mean there aren’t be any attractions worth exploring. Bouralgy Giraffe sanctuary constitutes one of them. A culturally unique encounter is the meeting with the endangered Malakote community, who seem to share a cultural similarity with the Turkana of the far North, and other endangered ethnic communities of Cushitic origin. The nomadic Muslim culture of the Somali majority also has its fascinating aspects, which differentiates it from the rest of Kenya. Encounter a new world within Kenya!
