#31 Turkana, South
The Turkana South Treasure comprises of dry, vast lands in the north west of Kenya. Climbing Mtelo Mountain will offer you a gaze over indefinite plains and occasional elevations, the territory of the Turkana pastoralists. Nasalot National Reserve, Turkwel reservoir, and South Turkana National Reserve are a wilderness hardly ever visited, so are the western shores of Lake Turkana. Similarly, the eastern shores are scenic and hold important archeological sites, such as the place where the famous Turkana Boy was discovered. Rock art as well as 2000 year old burial and prayer places prove long human settlement. Turkana South not only holds the keys to the past, but also the promises of the future. The first significant oil findings in Kenya have been made here and an enormous underground reservoir of freshwater was detected. Go for your limits!
